Occupational health conference in March

South African legislation places a burden on all employers to safeguard their employees against health and safety hazard exposures at the workplace.

Occupational health is the medical discipline that was developed with the intention of assisting employers in complying with these legal obligations.

The Overberg Occupational Health Group (OOHG) was established in 2018 as a loose collection of occupational health nurses and doctors with the express intention of increasing awareness of occupational health needs in the Overberg area, and to assist employers in acquiring the necessary skills to implement these legally required measures.

In March 2019, OOHG hosted a successful and well attended occupational health conference in the Overstrand Municipal Auditorium. The interest generated by this first effort motivated the group to plan another conference for 2020, on Friday 13 March from 08:00 to 13:00, also in the Overstrand Municipal Auditorium.

Topics addressed at the conference will include:. The Business Case for an Integrated Employee Wellness Programme. Management of excessive sick leave use. The Industrial Impact on Environmental Health. Legal aspects of Ergonomic Risk Management. Occupational Health Management of farm workers.

The conference will be of interest especially to employers, human resource managers, line managers, safety specialists, and occupational health professionals.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points are also available.
