PPC partners on new shelter

Progress is slowly being made at the Hermanus Night Shelter building site in Mount Pleasant.

In a corporate social investment project cement manufacturer PPC recently partnered with the Hermanus Night Shelter. On Thursday 21 November a group of approximately 35 people gathered at the night shelter to take part in a workshop presented by PPC. It included local participants who are construction workers, plasterers and contractors.

Here the group learnt more about the techniques of plastering and how to mix cement and sand in the correct way.

According to Ray Hartman, Treasurer of the shelter, partnering with PPC has been of great assistance. He explained the mission is to complete plastering the inside of the shelter before the end of the year. PPC’s area manager of country district, Rigardt Visser, explained to Hermanus Times that PPC decided to get involved because it wanted to assist the communities they operate in.

“This was seen as a great initiative to give something back, because we get to offer our expertise, and we also have the opportunity to educate construction workers.”

Hartman said the shelter still needs a lot of work, and approximately R1 million is still needed to get everything done. He urges businesses and the community to get involved in making this happen.
