Residents’ response to food appeal is overwhelming

Last week the DA Constituency Head of the Overstrand, Masizole Mnqasela, made an appeal to residents of the Overstrand to donate food to those in need.

He said there has been an overwhelming response from residents and shops in the Overstrand.

On Monday 30 March, Mnqasela and some councillors of the Overstrand visited shops involved to see how they were progressing, also thanking them for their support.

He explained the food bank sanitises all the products before they are given to the public, to ensure their health safety.

The Overstrand Executive Mayor Dudley Coetzee says residents should please consider contributing when going shopping at food stores. “You can simply drop it in the marked trolleys at most retailers.”

Essentials such as 5 kg maize meal, 2 kg samp, 2 kg rice, 2 kg beans, canned foods, toiletries, heavy duty black bags and detergents are needed.

Any other non-perishable food products are welcome as long as they are sealed in their original packaging.

Coetzee also adds that the less fortunate members of the local community should not be forgotten.

He appealed to all residents who are able to donate non-perishables to the most vulnerable families.

Distribution of this will be conducted by the Overstrand Municipality’s Disaster Management Unit. Coetzee would like to extend his thanks to everyone especially to the essential services workers.
