Two suspects were apprehended in Hermanus after being caught with chairs stolen from a local restaurant. This followed after their suspicious activities were spotted by the Hermanus Public Protection (HPP) CCTV operators.
“The town’s CCTV cameras has proven to be instrumental in many arrests,” says Marius Boshoff, Hermanus Branch Manager of Fidelity ADT. HPP is staffed and managed by Fidelity ADT.
The CCTV operators noticed how the two suspects made their way down Aberdeen Street with what appeared to be stolen items. They then alerted local HPP patrol officer Andile Peter as well as his supervisor, Juan Havenga, and the Westcliff Neighbourhood Watch.
All parties in the area responded within minutes, and they located and confronted the suspects. It was later determined that the chairs were stolen from a local restaurant. The suspects were arrested by the police and the restaurant owner was contacted. He opened a case of trespassing and theft against the suspects. Captain Fadila September, spokesperson for Hermanus police, confirmed two suspects, aged 29 and 42, were arrested on a charge of theft. “It was alleged they had stolen four chairs from premises in Aberdeen Street. The suspects were arrested and appeared in court.”
