Stolen copper cable recovered

GRABOUW – A suspect (39) appeared in court last week after he was arrested for being in possession of copper cables believed to have been stolen on a farm outside Hermanus. Captain Raldeen Atson, spokesperson for the Grabouw Police, reports the suspect was arrested near Siyanyanzela informal settlement in the early hours of Monday 9 November. “Agri Protection Services (APS) requested police assistance to apprehend a suspicious vehicle,” she said.

“The vehicle was stopped and three suspects ran into the informal settlement. One suspect was arrested and five rolls of copper cable were found inside the vehicle.” The stolen copper cable has an estimated street value of R15 000. Brigadier Donovan Heilbron, Overberg SAPS Cluster commander, commended the security company for their role in apprehending the suspect and recovering the cables. He said: “We as the police in the Overberg Cluster regard the food security environment as a very serious priority. Joint operations between the police and local security companies helped to ensure the speedy arrests. We urge the farming community to work with us as law enforcement agencies to ensure more arrests for cable theft.”
