Tamia Tonya crowned Queen of Overstrand

The Miss Gay Overstrand Beauty Pageant was the centre of attention in Hawston on Saturday 30 June.

The function was held at the Thusong Community Centre where many people showed up in support of the local gay community as well as the Catapult Music Foundation.

Models from Hawston, Cape Town and neighbouring towns such as Stanford were called in for the beauty pageant which served as a fundraiser for the Catapult Music Foundation. This foundation hosts a three-week winter music school for learners from schools in the Overberg Region.

Natasha Bruiners, organiser of the Catapult Foundation, came up with the idea to host a Miss Gay Overstrand Beauty Pageant and with the aid of two locals from Hawston, Elton Adams and Ashleen Hunter, organised a successful night.

“We raised R6 000, but half of that sum had to be paid to the musicians,” Bruiners said.

Carmen Exclusive, ArtOfficial and Signature SA were the bands in attendance to entertain the contestants and the audience with their captivating melodies.
