Thieves clean out shelves

Perfume worth thousands of rands was stolen during a break-in at Clicks in the central business district early on Wednesday morning.

At least three suspects gained entry to the shop by breaking the locks of the sliding door.

Looking through the window of the shop it was clear that the thieves were intent on stealing mainly expensive designer brand perfumes locked in glass cabinets close to the entrance. A few boxes of perfume were still scattered on the shelves and the floor but it appeared that everything else in the shop had been left untouched.

Susann Caminada, spokesperson for the Clicks group, said no staff members or customers were present at the time of the break-in.

“We are fully co-operating with the police,” she stated.

An eyewitness reported that he saw three men carrying large boxes from the shop.

“I didn’t want them to see me because I feared they would hurt me. They loaded the boxes onto a dark bakkie,” he added.

Captain Fadila September, spokesperson for the Hermanus Police, says a case of business break-in and theft is being investigated.

“When the manager opened the shop, she noticed that the door was forced open and that perfume was stolen. The value of the stolen goods is unknown at this stage. All information will be followed up. No arrests have been made yet,” she said.
