Water restrictions still at Level 3 till De Bos 70%

With the continuing severe drought conditions the Overstrand Municipality urge all our residents, visitors and holiday homeowners to use water sparingly. The Overstrand Municipality has implemented Level 3 Water Restrictions in the Greater Hermanus Area (from Benguela Cove to Voëlklip).

Gardens, flower beds and lawns may be watered only with buckets or watering cans and before 09:00 or after 17:00. The use of irrigation systems is prohibited. Vehicles may be washed using buckets only, and not with hoses. Hard surfaces, such as paving may not be hosed down.

Swimming pools may not be filled with municipal water.

It is advisable to cover swimming pools with a pool cover when not in use and to fill swimming pools with rain water.

All well points and bore-holes must be registered at the office of the area manager, and consumers must ensure that they display the appropriate signage to this effect, the signs must also be clearly visible.Things not to do during Level 3 water restrictions

. No use of hosepipes or automatic sprinkler systems using municipal water is allowed; only if own water sources like bore-hole or rainwater tanks are used.

. No filling of swimming pools with municipal water.

. The washing of vehicles with a hose pipe will not be permitted. Cars and boats may be washed only with water from buckets.

. Hosing down of hard-surfaced or paved areas with municipal water supply is not allowed.

According to the Overstrand Municipality, the restrictions will remain until De Bos Dam has reached an acceptable level of at least 70%, water restrictions and the restrictive tariffs will have to remain in force, and the implementation of stricter restrictions may have to be considered in the short term. Any person who contravenes these restrictions is guilty of an offence and is, on conviction, liable to a fine.
