Kleinmond bowl Napier out for 13 runs

On Saturday (15 February) the 1st cricket teams of Kleinmond and Bot River met in a Boland T20 League match in Kleinmond.

In warm conditions, Kleinmond batted first and put on a competitive 141 in their 20 overs. The star batsman was Juan van Rooyen who put on 49 runs before being caught on the boundary. Bot River started their chase well, keeping up with the run rate. At the end of the day Kleinmond’s bowling became tight and the pressure started to mount on the Bot River batsmen. This was one of the reasons why Kleinmond won with 16 runs. Top bowlers for Kleinmond were Christiaan Jordaan, Juan van Rooyen, Andre du Toit, Divan de Witt and Grant Cohen. The last round of group matches in the T20 League takes place in Grabouw on Saturday.

Last Sunday saw the much anticipated semi-final clash between Kleinmond’s 2nd team and Napier’s 1st team. At stake was a place in the final against Hawston 2nd team who had beaten Hermanus in their semi-final the previous weekend. After finishing top of the log during the league section of the 40 overs, Kleinmond enjoyed their home ground advantage. Napier won the toss and sent Kleinmond in to bat with gale force winds blowing. In their 40 overs, Kleinmond managed to get to 221 runs, leaving Napier 222 runs to win the match. The star batsman was Christiaan Jordaan who scored 59 runs. Napier then took the field to bat and what happened next will live long in the memories of the Kleinmond Cricket Club. Kleinmond managed to bowl Napier out for 13 runs, which is a club record for the Kleinmond Cricket Club. Opening bowler Christiaan Jordaan took six wickets for just four runs. He was supported by good fielding by the team and his opening partner Grant Cohen. Kleinmond looks forward to hosting Hawston in the final this Sunday from 11:00 at Kleinmond Primary school. The team invites the community to support them at the game.
