Be more vigilant about trolleys, stop whingeing!

I appeal to all the supermarkets to stop shoppers from leaving the premises with trolleys. They are left abandoned in parking bays, all over the village and along sidewalks in residential areas.

I witnessed two men smashing a brand new trolley from Spar in the Main Road of Sandbaai on Saturday morning. The bottom half was used to transport wood. If the rule can be applied to some supermarkets in the northern suburbs of Cape Town, then surely it can also be applied locally.

Secondly, a trolley was left on a pavement on a corner in the village, and as I approached to turn the corner with my vehicle, a gust of wind almost pushed the trolley into my car which could have caused a serious accident. It certainly leaves a bad impression of a town when businesses don’t care about their trolleys. Why must the taxpayer be penalised for negligence by supermarkets?

Thirdly, to all those who continually moan in our local newspapers about progress in Hermanus, please stop!

There is nothing we can do to stop progress. Let’s rather thank God for the privilege of living in this beautiful town surrounded by majestic mountains and the sea. We have plenty of fynbos so let’s get on with the bypass, the sooner the better, and I am sure you will realise that we need it desperately after the recent Christmas and New Year season. It also applies to the development of Grotto Beach and the De Mond development. I hope to read positive comments in future newspaper issues.

Good luck to the developers and municipality on the planning of our town in future.
