Health worker at the Hermanus Provincial Hospital

There has been a noticeable decline in active Covid-19 cases across the Overberg.

Roche Butler, spokesperson for the Overberg Health Department says that residents of the Overberg still need to follow the necessary protocols and in turn protecting themselves and their loved ones. As of Monday 14 September the Overberg recorded a total of 3 556 confirmed cases which 100 of these cases are active.

Butler says 93% of the total infections have recovered and 2,6% of the infections have succumb to Covid-19.

“With lockdown restrictions being relaxed we urge the public to continue practicing safety measures such as wearing a mask and keeping your distance when leaving your homes and this includes social gatherings.”

Currently Stanford situated in the Overstrand Municipality has the highest number of active cases, a total of 29 active cases. Butler says that a majority of the new positive cases in Stanford has been traced to a specific social gathering. Butler adds that that community testing and screening is ongoing within the Overberg. “Since community testing screening was launched in the Overberg on 20 April, a total of 286 747 people have been screened for Covid-19 by our community health workers and 1 539 have been referred for testing.

According to statistics released by the Overberg District Municipality as of Monday 14 September statistics in the Overberg showed:
