Aviation show held

Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) and the South African Civil Aviation Authority (Sacaa) hosted a first Aviation Youth Show at the Upington International Airport on Friday (17/05).

Sacaa, in partnership with Acsa, will host a series of aviation career exhibitions for scholars and young people in four provinces in 2019 and 2020.

Friday’s expo was attended by 500 scholars. By exposing youth to opportunities in the technical aviation fields, Acsa and Sacaa aim to promote transformation and job creation in technical aviation fields.

Conwill Willemse, manager of airfield services at Upington International Airport, said they do not just manage world-class airports, but also seek to inspire, educate and provide opportunities for previously disadvantaged youth.

The pupils enjoyed a live show of interactive displays and heard from young aviators of their experiences in establishing careers in the aviation industry.
