Prompt action leads to arrest

A quick response by members of the Upington police station led to the arrest of a business robbery suspect on Monday (12/08) at about 19:00.

Just before close of business, a wholesale store owned by foreign nationals was allegedly attacked by three armed suspects.

The shift members, Const. Gabriella Koopman and Const. Wanzel Jors, teamed up with Capt. Jacques Buys of the K-9 Unit and responded swiftly to the complaint.

On arrival, they found the suspects still on the premises and managed to reprimand and arrest one suspect, aged 30.

The two other suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money in a getaway car. The police are on the lookout for them.

Two firearms were confiscated, and it is reported that two of the workers sustained injuries to the head and arm during the robbery.

“It is time to reclaim Upington from the criminals. We will work day and night to fight crime to ensure the safety and security of all citizens,” said Brig. Sampie Koopman, station commander of Upington.
