FORMER Amavarara FC centre-back, Sapholwethu Kelepu, has signed a three-year professional contract with GladAfrica Championship (formerly National First Division) outfit TS Sporting FC, from Mpumalanga, Amavarara confirmed last week.
The 20-year-old has been with Amavarara since 2016 and was one of the youngest players who took part in the New Year’s Cup in 2017, winning the youngest defender of the tournament award in Makhanda.
Kelepu, who hails from Cacadu, said it has always been his dream to play in the professional ranks.
“It had always been a dream of mine to play in the top (local) division, then in the provincial ABC Motsepe League.
“But, for now, the main focus is to look at what is happening in this division and when the time comes, I will be able to do what I do best, which is to play regularly,” said Kelepu.
“I’m really thankful for the way things have gone and to Amavarara, who gave me a big platform to showcase my talent.”
The former u/19 national team player said he began playing at Amavarara as a young boy, but now he leaves as a man.
“I would also like to thank the coaches‚ my teammates and the fans of this wonderful club for all the love and support they have shown me,” said Kelepu.
“As I turn the page to a new chapter in my football career‚ I look forward to the new challenge this presents. As I move forward, I will never forget my roots in the Chris Hani District.”
Amavarara nearly reached the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup this year, but lost their last match against Black Leopards in February. Kelepu was an integral part of that history.
After numerous attempts, no comment could be obtained from Amavarara.
