Young Minds shock Stars in SAB League

AFTER all the scheduled SAB Regional League games were postponed on Saturday so that fans could support Amavarara in the Nedbank Cup in East London, on Sunday afternoon, Stream B league contenders, Seven Stars, were beaten in front of their home supporters 1-0 by Ilinge side Young Minds Development FC, at the Dumpy Adams Sports Complex in Komani.

In the match which took place in rainy weather, the visitors edged Stars 1-0 courtesy of a first-half goal from Thulani Thozamile, who scored a header from Yamkela Papu’s free kick, just outside the box.

Young Minds now have 19 points and have moved up to third place after this win and closed the gap on the Dongwe-based log leaders, MK Academy.

They are one point behind Stars, three points behind MK Academy and still have a game in hand.

Seven Stars went into this game wanting revenge after Young Minds beat them by the same score line in the final of R50 000 Gwede Mantashe Foundation Tournament, which was held in Cala during the festive season.

“This was a great game for the supporters to watch,” said Seven Stars’ coach, Willie Kepkey.

“My boys tried their best to score a goal but Young Minds goalkeeper was on his best form.

“We just need to recover from this game and for the top spot again and with the talent that we have in the team we can still go on top of the log,” said Kepkey.

Young Minds’ head coach, Siyabulela Yiweni, said this was the game of the season so far, as both teams displayed great football on the day.

“Both teams wanted to win this game so badly and we were the best team on the day, as we defended our lead very well,” said Yiweni.
