SHAVE, spray, donate – all while being colourfully loud.

And it is all for a good cause.

Armed with clippers and a multitude of spray cans, the first Kouga Municipality CANSA Shavathon is set to take over Fountains Mall in Jeffreys Bay from 10:00 to 13:00 on Saturday, February 27 – transforming residents’ hair into an artwork of colour or a bald masterpiece.

Residents and visitors keen to show their support for this “hairy” event, can venture down to the promotion court in front of Pick n Pay at Fountains Mall, where the Kouga Municipality team, in conjunction with CANSA Jeffreys Bay, Fountains and Beautique Salon will be waiting to shave, cut or spray their hair.

Ponytails of 25cm or longer will go towards making wigs for cancer patients in need. Hair in a pony can also be donated before the event.

All it will cost participants are a few minutes of their time and a few rands out of their wallets.

For those less brave, Pick n Pay has sponsored delicious cupcakes that will be up for grabs in return for a donation.

Adding to the fun are various Kouga Municipality goodies that will be up for grabs, including face masks. Splash, the popular water mascot, will also make a “splash” on the day.

Employees from the different departments at the municipality will also challenge each other on the day. The department with the most representatives on the day, will walk away with a Fountains Mall voucher.

“It is a great privilege to support and host the annual CANSA Shavathon on Saturday,” said Fountains Mall marketing manager, Nadine Scheepers.

“Come and support a cancer survivor on the day by either spraying or shaving your hair and giving a donation to support the local cancer association.”

All COVID-19 regulations will be adhered to on the day. Participants are, furthermore, asked to wear a mask, sanitise and adhere to social distancing.

Financial donations beforehand are also welcome.

Donations can be made to Absa Bank, CANSA SA, account number 115 714 0058, reference Shavathon 2021 JBay.

Donations of Ensure Nutrition for cancer patients are also much needed. Donations can be dropped off at Fountains Mall Centre Management in Jeffreys Bay.
