Police are on the hunt for about five men who allegedly stormed into a smallholding near St Francis Bay and attacked a couple outside on Saturday night, February 27.
According to police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli, it is alleged that on Saturday, at about 23:00, the suspects - two armed with firearms - entered the smallholding and accosted the husband who was busy outside the house at the time.
“He was then forced at gunpoint into the house. The couple were held at gunpoint and were tied with ropes,” said Nkohli.
“The suspects ransacked the house and made off with valuable items estimated around R400 000. The suspects fled the scene in the couple’s bakkie.”
Nkohli said the couple, aged 61 and 54, managed to free themselves and reported the matter to the police.
He said their vehicle was later recovered abandoned on the R102.
“The husband was treated for minor injuries and his wife escaped unscathed,” said Nkohli.
Police are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the investigating officer, Detective Constable Bongani Sisusa at 060 378 9056 or 042 200 1817. The information may also be shared anonymously via Crime Stop 08600 10111.
