Several local community halls repaired and revamped

RENOVATIONS to the Newton Hall in Jeffreys Bay is nearing completion.

Kouga Community Services Portfolio Councillor Daniel Benson said the Newton Hall was one of six community halls across the region to have been repaired over the past six months.

“The KwaNomzamo Hall and Kruisfontein Civic Centre in Humansdorp, the Pellsrus Hall in Jeffreys Bay, the Katrina Felix Hall in Thornhill and the Vusumzi Landu Hall in Hankey have all been improved,” he said.

“These halls are important communal facilities, be it for weddings, funerals, fund-raisers, church services or birthday parties.

“In this way it helps strengthen the social fibre of our communities. We are, therefore, very pleased that we could improve the quality of these facilities to the benefit of all residents.”

He said new palisade fencing had been erected at the KwaNomzamo, Kruisfontein and Vusumzi Landu Halls to boost the safety of those using the facilities and protect the buildings from vandalism.

The roof and interior of the Kwa-Nomzamo Hall were further painted, the stage and windows were repaired and burglar bars installed. A ceiling was also installed at the toilets and the kitchen fitted out with new cupboards.

New electrical equipment, including, a stove, fridge, urn and microwave, were purchased for the Pellsrus Hall and laminated flooring installed in the office section.

The ablution facilities at both Kruisfontein and Vusumzi Landu were revamped and now boast new toilet sets and hand basins.

“The Katrina Felix Hall is in a good condition, but there were many broken windows. These have now all been fixed,” he said.

He said the municipality had also been upgrading the clubhouses and ablution facilities at sportsfields and along the beachfront, as well as public toilets in town areas.

Work on the Newton Hall is due for completion in the third week of Fe-bruary.
