Sewer vehicles now legally on the road

THE licensing challenge of rental vehicles being used to deliver critical sewer services in the Kouga region has been resolved.

Kouga Infrastructure and Engineering Portfolio Councillor Freddy Campher said seven of the vehicles were now fully licensed while four had been issued with temporary permits last week.

“The vehicles also passed their roadworthy checks, confirming that they can legally operate on public roads.”

He said the municipality regretted that it had been necessary to continue use of the vehicles before the licensing challenge could be resolved.

“These vehicles included suction tankers and high-pressure jetting machines necessary to clear sewer blockages.

“We in no way condone having unlicensed vehicles on the road, but we could not put these critical sewer services on hold while the matter was being addressed.

“It would have posed too great a health risk to communities,” he explained.
