Donors can save a life on Thursday

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) has stated that hundreds of women around the world die from pregnancy-related complications.

Research shows that currently, 27% of maternal deaths are as a result of severe bleeding during labour. In some cases it is not only the mother who is in need of blood, but also the baby.

Baby girls are future mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers.

As South Africa celebrates Women’s Day on Thursday (09/08), the SANBS asks the community to donate blood and potentially help to save a mother or child who could die within hours due to complications during labour.

Donate blood on Thursday at the Kroonstad Donor Centre at Checkers, from 09:00 to 14:00.

The target that the SANBS is aiming for, is 30 units of blood.
