Khans Tyres has been part of the tyre industry in South Africa since 1979, when Ahmed Khan opened his store in Newcastle.
Khan’s daughter, Shahnaaz Moola, and son in law, Mahomed Moola, gained all their knowledge by working for him for several years.
In 2003 the couple decided they needed more for their future and wanted to build something of their own. This is when they left the familiarity of their hometown and family and took a leap of faith. They took some time off driving around the country and stumbled across Kroonstad and decided this was home for them.
Shahnaaz, being born and bred in the tyre industry, and Mahomed, being an auto electrician by trade, put their minds together and with faith and hope in God, they moved to Kroonstad.
The two of them with their children started a small workshop behind the BP garage in Reitz Street. The inception of Khans Tyres in Kroonstad had thus begun.
They started with very little and it took a long time for the couple to earn the trust and acknowledgement of the humble community of Kroonstad. Things were tough and the competition was fierce, but both Mahomed and Shahnaaz worked hard over the years.
Through service, growth, long hours, hard work, frustration and many times wanting to give up, the business slowly started picking up – with the right price and warm friendly service this led to word of mouth referrals.
Slowly business got better and with patience and hard work, in 2006 they managed to buy a building in central town currently known as Khans Tyres – Point S Kroonstad.
Khans made a breakthrough in 2009 when they acquired Supa Quick Kroonstad.
In 2007, Khans Tyres had taken yet another step further and opened a small Dunlop Zone in Marrock Street, Kroonstad, and in 2019 it opened its doors in Parys with Supa Quick Parys on 59 Bree Street.
The couple went on to purchase the Trentyre building in March 2020. After much renovations and change, Mahomed and Shahnaaz are proud to announce the grand opening of the Dunlop Zone store Khans Drivestyle.
Khans is a family name, and this is a proud moment in history for them, not only because of its 41 years of trading, but because Shahnaaz and Mahomed are handing over the reins of this special store to their two sons Nabeel and Ridhwaan Moola. The couple has four children and their two eldest sons are now joining the family business and have shown the same passion and eagerness to be part of a great legacy.
This is truly a pivotal moment in history for the “Khan family” in the tyre industry, as this is a third generation store. The couple would like to welcome their boys aboard on a mission to build an empire and leave a legacy – and they pass over their motto to their children that “faith in God, hard work and honesty go a long way”.
Four branches later, since inception in 2003, Khans has become a household name amongst the residents of Kroonstad and surrounding areas.
Khans Tyres would like to thank the community of Kroonstad and surrounding areas for their loyal support always and look forward too many more years of trading.
