Farmers nurtured

Achievers were honoured last week during the Sernick Group’s annual day for emerging farmers.

More than 450 registered delegates attended this event at Edenvale on Friday (31/01).

A group of 140 farmers who form part of the Sernick Emerging Farmers Programme, presented in partnership with The Jobs Fund, received their national certificate in Animal Production.

Mavis Motlokwa was announced as the female farmer of the year, while Bodulo Mabote received the award for farmer of the year 2019.

“Tier-three farmers who prove their skills and successful management will be selected to become members of the Black Emerging Farmers’ Trust,” says Petro Naudé, project manager of the Sernick Emerging Farmers Programme.

The event was highlighted by an opening address from William Bulwane, MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development in the Free State, and an informative and practical demonstration was given by Dr Faffa Malan on how to control brucellosis in South Africa.

Aubrey Dladla from OBP Animal Health spoke about controlled and non-controlled diseases in South Africa, and Nick Serfontein addressed the attendees on the importance of hope and how the Sernick Group was committed to emerging and commercial farmers in South Africa.
