Officials aim for a goal

The annual national netball championship of the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) was hosted in Kroonstad from Tuesday (05/03) to Thursday (07/03).

It was held at the Wanderers netball court.

Altogether 180 officials from all the provinces participated and women’s and men’s teams formed part of the competition.

“The National Netball Championship is endorsed and supported by the Directorate Employee Wellness.” “It is critical that our officials are provided with opportunities of this nature as a means to alleviate the impact of working in a challenging environment,” says Dr. Pravesh Bhoodram, director of employee wellness.

“The players know that, as much as we are here to compete against each other, we are mostly here to rejuve­nate our system, build friendship and take netball to the next level,” says Kego Mpa, president of DCS Netball.

The aim of the competition is to elect one national team. that teams compete against one another to elect one national team.

The men’s team from KwaZulu­Natal ended in the first place, while the team made up of players from Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the North West claimed a second place.

The team from the Free State and the Northern Cape ended third.

In the women’s division, the team from Gauteng ended first, while the team from Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West ended in second place.

The team from KwaZulu-Natal claimed a third place.
