By Thursday (25/06), posi­tive cases of Covid-19 had been reported at 15 schools in the Free State.

According to Howard Ndaba, departmental spokes­person, schools with positive cases will immediately be closed until further notice says that when there are positive cases at schools.

Subsequently, all staff members and learners will be tested for Covid-19 and quarantined.

The schools must also be disinfected immediately.

So far, the resumption of the school year has been turbulent, with schools closing their doors within three weeks of reopening.

It is expected that the next phase of learners will return to school on 6 July.

Meanwhile, many teachers and unions in the education sector are uncertain about reopening schools and controlling the spread of the virus for the duration of the academic year.
