Students hit top positions

The Kroonstad Black Belt Academy is performing very well on provincial and national level.

Seven students of the academy participated at the American Taekwando Association of South Africa (ATA-SA) Top 5 competition and the South African Korean Martial Arts Association Championship (Sakmaa) held in Secunda from 12 to 14 October.

The Top 5 competition was very tough and students competed for the top spot in South Africa, Sah Bum Nim Morné England of the academy said.

“Five students from Kroonstad qualified to compete in the Top 5 this year, and seven qualified to compete in the family festival.”

Students who participated are:

  • Colour belt divisions for Top 5: Christo de Rebeira, Chris van Dalen (third place in forms and third in weapons) and Angelique de Bruto (second in forms and third in weapons).
  • Black belt divisions:

Ethan Klaassens (fourth in traditional forms, fourth in weapons, fourth in combat weapons and fifth in sparring) and Morné England (first in forms, first in sparring and first in combat weapons).

  • Family festival black belt division: Christian Barnard and Julian Clarke.
