Applications awaited

In the first week since its inception, the Northern Cape Department of Education’s online admission system received 17 647 successful applications.

This platform, which gives parents or legal guardians the ability to apply for their child’s admission in the 2021 school year, will be available until 30 September.

Geoffrey van der Merwe, spokesperson for the department, encouraged those who have not yet applied to make use of this opportunity to secure a spot for their child at a public ordinary school. The Frances Baard District accounts for 55,9% of the total applications, while the Namakwa District, at 3,5%, has had the least number of applications.

Van der Merwe said the department is cognizant of the fact that the Northern Cape is a rural province with certain areas or towns experiencing challenges with internet connectivity.

“We identified 154 walk-in centres to assist parents or legal guardians without a device, gadget or internet connectivity to complete the application,” he said.
