Club celebrates 50 years

Kimberley Harriers, one of the oldest running clubs in the Northern Cape, celebrated its 50th anniversary on 16 and 17 November.

Apart from founder member Sarge Ball and his son, Gregory Ball, all the way from Scottburgh, the club played host to Louis Massyn, one of two athletes who have completed 47 Comrades Marathons, and Gert Thys, record holder.

Sarge, George MacCallum and Jimmy Glover founded the club to have the necessary club affiliation to allow them to run the Comrades Marathon.

Gregory designed the club logo 37 years ago. George and Jimmy have since passed away.

On Saturday, 16 November, the annual awards ceremony was combined with the 50th anniversary celebrations at Tafel Lager Park.
