Karatekas kick for medals

Several karatekas of the De Beers Japan Karate Association (JKA) represented the Northern Cape at the South African JKA Karate Championships held in Johannesburg on Friday, 24 May, and Saturday, 25 May.

  • The following karatekas received medals at the championships: Michael Brink received a silver medal for kata and kumite (sparring) in the division for 11 year old boys, blue belts.) Tyla Ferris received a silver medal for kumite (sparring) in the division for 10 year old boys, orange belts.) Neil Booyens received a silver medal for kata in the division for 14 year old boys, blue belts.) Christopher Holroyd received a silver medal for kumite (sparring) in the division for 14 year old boys, red belts.
  • The results in the brown and black belt divisions are as follows: Deowin Anthonie received a bronze medal for kata (forms) in the division for 13 year old boys, elite division.) Cassidy Kenny received a bronze medal for kata (forms) in the division for 14 year old girls, elite division.
