Kby artist to exhibit in China

Tshepo Phillip Matlhoko, an artist from Kimberley, has been invited by the China Foreign Art Exhibition Centre to exhibit his artwork at the Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition in Quanzhou, Fujian, from Thursday (21/11) to Thursday (28/11).

Matlhoko is the only artist from Africa who has been invited to the exhibition, part of the 4th Maritime Silk Road International Arts Festival.

Matlhoko said he started to draw when he was six years old and studied art for seven years at the Kimberley Art Centre, specialising in wood carving, charcoal and oil painting.

He has been involved in the creative art industry for 25 years and was part of the team which developed art effects for the Northern Cape Legislature building in 2001 and some of his artworks can be seen in the William Humphrey Art Gallery.

In 2006 he was selected to study the animal skin technique in Ethiopia.

He has attended and exhibited his artwork in more than 30 exhibitions in South Africa and even more all over the world.
