Stakeholders briefed on Compensation Fund at hotel breakfast

The office of the Compensation Commissioner hosted a networking breakfast in conjunction with the South African Institute of Accountants (SAIPA) at the Kimberley Club Boutique Hotel on Monday (27/05).

Speaking at the breakfast Vuyo Mafata (Compensation Commissioner) said that the Workmen’s Compensation Fund had many challenges the past few years and has engaged with the different stakeholders in order to start addressing the challenges.

The fund was established in terms of Section 15 of Compensation for Occupational Injuries & Diseases Act as amended in order to provide compensation for disablement caused by occupational injury or disease in the workplace.

They are striving to become a world class provider of sustainable compensation for occupational injuries and diseases, rehabilitation and integration services.

In 2013 a system was introduced to provide online services called Umehluko.

Last year CF-Filing was also introduced for the submission of the annual Return of Earnings and Letters of Good Standing.

Employers can now register online and do not need to provide copies of CIPC- or ID-documents as they are linked to CIPC and the Department of Home Affairs.

This breakfast was hopefully the first of many more to come.
