In yet another frustrating case of ATM-scamming a pensioner became a victim of one of these frequent teller fraud incidents on Saturday 8 February at a shopping centre in Southern Paarl.
The victim was approached by two males who said that payment must be done via credit card for the parking bay the victim used.
The victim unknowingly accompanied the suspects to the ATM and was defrauded of about R4 000.
“Local business and shopping centres are once again requested to assist with curbing ATM fraud by placing signage regarding free parking areas,” said Capt Louise du Plessis, Paarl-police spokesperson. “We would like to thank businesses who have already installed such signage as ATM fraud has been decreasing in those areas,” said Du Plessis.
