Mbekweni Braai Café tops competition

The Cape Winelands District Municipality ran a competition for small, medium and micro-enterprises (SMMEs) in the district to promote the implementation of Covid-19 regulations.

Entrants were required to submit photos showing how they prevented the spread of the virus by adhering to the guidelines for hand sanitation, mask wearing and social distancing. The winners each receive an advertorial in their local newspapers to the value of R5 000.

In Drakenstein, the funky team from The Braai Café in Mbekweni illustrated how they implemented Covid-19 prevention measures, even while braaiing for their clients.

The Braai Café is a youth owned micro-franchise cooperative with a vision to create a brand that will be true to what is believed in as a nation, at the same time sharing those beliefs through quality food, a wide selection of beverages and friendly, efficient service.

The CWDM has an active Local Economic Development division, and this competition was in line with its strategic goal of growing and thriving entrepreneurship and innovation. The municipality is currently open to funding applications – the closing date for applications is 30 October 2020. Visit the CWDM webpage at www.capewinelands.gov and click on the Call for Proposals-PP-IDP link on the home page for all the relevant information.
