Police investigate several murders in Drakenstein

Police in Drakenstein had their hands full with several murders that took place in the area.

In the first incident in Mbekweni on 6 September at 13:35 in Swartberg Street, a 18-year-old man, Bronwin Davids from Wellington, was stabbed in the chest with a sharp object.

The deceased was then rushed to Paarl Hospital in a private vehicle. But it was in vain, as the victim later died of his injuries.

Mbekweni police spokesperson Sergeant Nceba Vanqa said a 17-year-old boy was arrested and appeared in Wellington Magistrate’s Court on 10 September.

In another incident on 7 September at 23:40 in Mlonji Street in Mbekweni, a man known as Nceba Dlikilili (22) died after being stabbed.

“The suspect told the police he and the deceased had had an argument,” Vanqa said. “The deceased allegedly slapped him after which he took out a knife and stabbed the victim.”

Lifa Silandela (23) was arrested and appeared in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court on Monday 10 September for murder.

In Langrug, Franschhoek, resident Olga Miti (24) was arrested for allegedly stabbing a man in the heart on Saturday 8 September at about 16:15. Franschhoek police spokesperson Sergeant Mareeze Mentoor said Khayalethu Modingozi (27) was walking with a friend when he got into an altercation with Miti.

“She then allegedly stabbed him with a knife,” said Mentoor. Modingozi was taken to Stellenbosch Hospital by ambulance, but died hours after his arrival. Miti appeared in the Franschhoek Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 11 September. The case was transferred to the Paarl Regional Court and postponed to 25 September.
