Robbers target two houses

Two separate incidences of armed robbery were reported over the weekend and both households were attacked by three men disguised with balaclavas. They were armed with screwdrivers and other tools.

Captain Louise du Plessis, Paarl police spokesperson, confirmed that the first robbery took place in Simondium on Friday 23 November at 20:30.

Here a family were entertaining guests when three men entered their home near the Berg River Resort. Du Plessis said a family member of the complainant went outside to empty a garbage bin when attacked by the three suspects. They then forced the person back into the house and the suspects told the rest of the victims to lie on the ground.

“During this time the complainant managed to trigger an alarm and the suspects fled the scene with jewellery, cellphones and cash,” said Du Plessis. She added guests suffered slight injuries and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

On Saturday evening (24 November) a couple who had recently moved into a house on a farm in the Bo Dal-area was also confronted by three men. Du Plessis said the suspects entered the house when one of the complainants went outside to tend to their dogs.

“The victims’ hands were tied and the suspects demanded cash. One of the victims managed to free themselves and press the panic button and the suspects then fled the scene. When we look at the circumstances, it is possible it is the same group,” said Du Plessis. Anyone with information can call Paarl police station on 021 807 4014 or 079 894 1706.
