Still no end to violent crime

The past few days were once again characterised by murder and armed robbery.

In the first incident, a 18-year-old man was arrested in Paarl East for the murder of a 16-year-old.

The incident took place in Klein Nederburg, apparently during an argument between the two on Saturday 14 December.

The suspect was arrested shortly after.

In a second incident, an armed robber was arrested on Sunday morning after a robbery in a Lady Grey Street shop.

The incident took place at about 08:50 at PEP Home, where a shop assistant was waiting to be let into the shop. When a colleague opened the door a man approached them armed with a firearm and forced his way into the shop. Once inside, the suspect demanded cash and then fled the scene.

The employees immediately sought the help of passersby, who chased after the suspect. Members of Paarl police were alerted and joined in the chase and the 35-year-old suspect from Mbekweni was arrested.

The Burger King fast food outlet in Paarl was robbed of approximately R10 000 by a knife wielding robber on Wednesday morning. The suspect entered the premises when staff were arriving for work at 07:10. He threatened a shop assistant wielding a knife and demanded that the cash in the safe be handed over. The money was placed in a plastic bag and the suspect walked out of the premises. No arrests have been made.
