Warrant out for businessman’s arrest

Police have issued a warrant of arrest for alleged fraudster and Paarl businessman Barry Oberholzer, after he failed to appear in court twice.

He was released on bail of R50 000 by the Western Cape High Court last July, after being denied bail by the Paarl Magistrate’s Court.

He currently faces 17 charges in the Bellville Commercial Crimes Court, ranging from fraud to offences under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act, which include alleged irregular cigarette transactions and complaints of outstanding rents.

He was scheduled to appear in court on 29 June, but didn’t show up. His attorney also couldn’t account for his whereabouts. The case was postponed until 14 July, but Oberholzer again failed to appear.

The case has been temporarily withdrawn until he is arrested. A warrant has been issued for this purpose.
