A good team effort by the Paarl Cricket Club

An excellent team performance saw Paarl Cricket Club secure their seventh victory of the season in the Boland Premier League on Saturday 15 February, when they scored a comfortable 114-run victory over Robertson at the Parys Cricket Grounds (PCG).

After electing to bat first, disaster struck when Paarl’s Darryl Hendricks was dismissed with the first ball of the day, but a 75-run partnership between Robyn Andrews (85 11x4, 1x6) and Rantin Fortuin (22 3x4) followed, as this pair mixed defence with aggression to make the visiting bowlers toil in the Paarl heat.

Captain Waylin September (62 7x4*) joined Andrews for a fourth wicket partnership of 78 runs, while the young Johan Smal’s cameo of 39 off only 20 balls (2x4, 3x6) took the home team to 225/4 in their allotted 50 overs, after his unbeaten 60 run fifth wicket partnership with September.

Lutho Ngqongwa (1/19) and Nathan Brown (1/20) achieved the best bowling figures for Robertson, but their batsmen were at sea against the guile and variation of September (10-3-41-5), who was the obvious choice as Man of the Match.

Only Brendon Erasmus (30) and Warwick Abrahim (40) managed to reach double figures as Paarl’s accurate bowling bagged them another bonus point.

Kyle Solomons (7-3-4-1) applied the pressure with the new ball, to allow spinners September and Herschelle Poggenpoel (6.1-1-18-2) to send the visitors packing, with only 111 in 38 overs.

Paarl’s next clash will be on Saturday 22 February at the PCG against Paarl East, who will be determined to improve their position at the bottom of the log.
