All Girls’ Festival just so much fun

La Rochelle Girls’ High School and Paarl Girls’ High School joined forces in hosting the 20th Annual National All Girls’ Schools Festival, from 1 to 4 May.

This festival is one of the biggest schools’ festival in the country, with 21 of the countries top girls’ schools taking part, and 1 200 girls between the age 14 and 18, their principals, teachers, coaches and parents all participating.

The All Girls’ organisers were committed to creating a platform for leadership and social interaction among the youth through competing in a variety of cultural and sporting codes.

The emphasis of the festival is on camaraderie and keen competition among the schools, with a number of teams out to defend their top-ranking status. Not only do the girls get a chance to renew acquaintances and make new friends, they were also exposed to experts in a number of fields.

The activities for 2019 were, in the cultural sphere, sculpting and other forms of visual art, creating Boland cuisine, debating, drama, masterminds (pitting knowledge and skills against one another), public speaking and vocal ensemble.

Sports the schools took part in, include chess, cross-country, hockey, netball, squash and tennis.
