More Strongman fun in Paarl

The time has come for the third ever Fisherman’s Friend Strongman Run South Africa in Paarl on Saturday 13 October, when hundreds of participates will literally crawl and fall in the streets in what is known as “the biggest fun, mass-start obstacle race in the world”.

Ferdinand Rabie, owner of Fisherman’s Friend Strongman Run South Africa, says it’s all systems go for this year’s race.

“This is our third year hosting the event and every year the number of entries has grown substantially,” he says.

“It was a lot of hard work and long hours to get everything in place, as we have strong rules and regulations that need to be up to world standard, which need to be met.”

The race offers three distances, namely the 8 km, 15 km and 21 km events.

The 8 km event starts at 09:40. This course and distance is seen as the entry-level event for beginners. The 15 km (09:30) event is the most popular with 30 fun obstacles to be overcome.

The 21 km (08:00) event is for the serious athletes with 34 obstacles bound to get them dirty and wet, and fitness levels will be tested to the utmost in this gruelling event.

There is also a kiddies’ race for the young ones.

But, says Rabie, this race is not about winning but it is all about fun. Teams participate and the idea of this worldwide event is for teams to dress in a theme.

Although digital entries have closed, those wanting to participate can still enter and register on Thursday 11 October and Friday 12 October from 11:00 until 19:00 at Faure Street Stadium.

All entrants will receive two spectator tickets with their race numbers.

Those who are not so energetic are still invited to join in the fun afterwards at the stadium, as Mark Haze will perform from 14:00 until 16:00.
