Paarl Cricket pummels Robertson

The Paarl Cricket Club scored their second victory of the season in Boland’s 50 Over Premier League competition last weekend with a convincing seven wicket victory in their away encounter against Robertson.

The 2019/’20 T20 Champions failed to maintain their early season form and were bundled out for a paltry 69, after winning the toss.

Paarl’s Rabian Engelbrecht (1/28) and Kyle Solomons (1/16) struck early to see the home team reeling on 2/20, before Eddie van Staden and Geraldo Cremon (16) managed to scrape 28 runs together for the 3rd wicket.

Then Herschelle Poggenpoel (7.3-1-13-4) and captain Waylin September (8-3-7-4) took control and had the home team at sea with their left arm spin bowling.

Opener Danico Philemon was the only other Robertson batsman to reach double figures.

At 2/22 the ever reliable Rantin Fortuin (28) joined the experienced Morne de Vries(26*), who showed a welcome return to form. They stabilised the innings and a bonus point victory was secured in the 24th over.

At the Parys Grounds, Paarl II was in equally good form against Robertson II.

The visitors managed to post only 102 in 26 overs, thanks to tight bowling by Cullen Heugh (3/21) and Manley Minnaar (2/28). Trevino Solomons (33) looked impressive in an opening partnership of 55 with Wilton Hess (19), until he mistimed the spin of Lendl Padiachy (4/10), who was the most impressive visiting bowler.

The home team clinched a bonus point with their six wicket victory.
