Win with the Winelands Marathon

It’s all systems go for the biggest running event on the Cape Winelands calendar which takes place on 9 November at Eikestad Primary School in Stellenbosch, the Sportsmans Warehouse Winelands Marathon 2019.

Although the entries for the 42,2 km marathon and for the half marathon of 21,1 have closed, there is also a 5 km fun run for which participants can still enter, even on the morning of the event from 05:00.

The marathon is an official Two Oceans ultra-marathon and Comrades qualifier and there will be plenty of Western Province pace setters to help you reach your goal for both flagship races.

Apart from promising a scenic route and great race, there will be loads of fun and activity with music and entertainment to help runners through the final kilometres of the race.

An official partner in this race which contributes largely to its success is the Stellenbosch Municipality which among other things provide amenities to and traffic services for the event.

A focus of this year’s race is to be kind to the environment, by reusing plastic. The race will have four plastic free water stations.

Race organisers encourage runners to support the #ICarryMyOwn campaign by bringing a refill bottle or collapsible cup to fill up at the water-stations without sachets.

“There has been an outcry in the running community around the amount of plastic staying behind at races. We are working closely with experts in this field and with the support of the Stellenbosch Municipality to ensure this is a huge success,” say the organisers of the race. • A Paarl Post reader can win a R500 sporting gift voucher by sending a Whatsapp to 066 484 3728 stating the name of the main sponsor of the Winelands Marathon.
