Root this evil out

I have regularly read in Paarl Post of attacks on emergency personnel, including the police, in gang-ridden areas of Paarl-East.

And this past week in a daily newspaper I read of similar incidents towards Cape Town, where firefighters were injured when they were attacked while doing their duty during a shack fire.

They were there to assist the victims, who where about to lose everything in the fire.

But what do they get in return for risking there own lives – the public, for no reason whatsoever, turn on them, leaving some of them severely injured.

In the case of Paarl’s gang-ridden areas, what are the police doing to clean up those areas up?

How often are large numbers of officers sent in to search for weapons, drugs, etcetera?

Surely those found with an illegal firearm in their possession should be locked up and the keys thrown away?

And when the ambulance services or firefighters are summoned in case of an emergency, they should simply not go. Let the community then rather vent their anger on the gangsters and their followers who are responsible for this situation and so root out the evil.

J.v.L,
Paarl
