Learners at Protea Heights Academy have evacuated the school grounds on Wednesday 11 November after the school allegedly received a false bomb threat.
The area was locked down and secured by police, who was on the scene and conducted a search operation with sniffer dogs.
At the time, a teacher at the school told TygerBurger that the school could not provide any more details about the incident.
“All learners are safe and accounted for, and are now being sent home and everything is under control,” she said.
According to police spokesperson Capt Erica Crous they received a call from the school at 11:15.
“A bomb threat received by a High School in Brackenfell was found to be false after a thorough search by the Metro K9 Dog unit," she said.
Crous confirmed that the threat was received via e-mail, which triggered the teaching personnel and law enforcement agencies to evacuate all learners from the building.
"The search by the K9 unit found confirmed that there were no explosive devices on the school premises.
"A docket was opened and will be thoroughly investigated in an effort to identify the person responsible since false complaints such as these are seen in a very serious light.
"We would like to thank all role players involved who assisted at the school," adds Crous.
