Community support praised

The overwhelming support from the community following the water shortage at Peace Home, a home for abused children, has been praised by the Table View Ratepayers’ Association (TVRA).

Mandy da Matta, chairperson, told TygerBurger on Monday that their organisation became involved in the so-called Peace Home Initiative when it became apparent that there had been a water supply problem, or water shortage.

“The plea for assistance was broadcast to our community and everybody climbed in to assist in this desperate situation.

“The plight of the children was our main concern and to have water supply restored to the property,” Da Matta said.

The initiative, she said, must have brought in over 5000 litres of water during a seven-day period.

Da Matta said over 30 role players and community members were involved.

“Water was delivered from as far afield as Worcester and Howick,” she said.

Da Matta also thanked everyone via social media platforms where news of Peace Home’s plight had been shared.

“One thing that I have seen over the last seven days is that we have an amazing community that stands together in times of crisis. Many miracles have happened and we have brought dignity and peace back to Peace Home. “To each and every one that has assisted in keeping Peace Home stocked with water, washed clothes, helped to bath the children, fixed leaks and have shown huge love and delivered unbelievable acts of kindness...thank you, thank you, thank you,” Da Matta wrote on Facebook.
