Community urged to remain alert

Parow Police Station is urging the community to be vigilant. The Parow community has been plagued by theft and robberies for the last two months.

Captain Kevin Williams, the spokesperson for Parow police, says a suspect was arrested for theft out of a motor vehicle on Monday 11 March at 06:00.

“The owner ensured that his vehicle was properly locked. When he came back to his vehicle, he noticed that his toolbox was opened and tools were removed.”

According to Williams, the tools that were stolen amounted to roughly R10 500.

Williams says a community member identified a person standing near the vehicle and Parow police then followed up on leads and positively arrested a suspect. The station commander wishes to express his appreciation to members for good work.

The main street where these crimes occur are in Voortrekker Road CBD, Frederick Street, Bloulellie Street, Alexandra Street, Graaff Way, 3rd Avenue, and George Starck

These crimes are usually prevalent on Friday’s from 18:00 to 21:00 and Mondays from 21:00 to midnight. Williams says criminals most prevalent methods of these crimes include breaking the side window, opening the vehicle door, removing items from the vehicle. Residents are advised to ensure that their windows and doors are closed and that their doors are locked. Residents are reminded to park their vehicles in a locked-up place or garage. All vehicles parked outside should not have any valuables as criminals look for items to steal. Residents should to keep valuables in the boot or glove compartment. Remember to secure the battery and mag wheels.

Residents should also remember to install an effective alarm system if you have an older model vehicle. Activate your alarm system, close doors and windows properly , do not park vehicles in the street. For more information or queries contact Parow Police Station on 021 929 7000.
