Face of Talent Africa is making a difference

Dancing since the age of three, a Blouberg Ridge Primary School learner is the new face of Talent Africa in the province.

Not even the Covid-19 pandemic can stop what the 13-year-old Kira Pfotenhauer enjoys most – performing and making a difference.

“I’ve become a dancer for many different reasons, but what really makes it like no other is being able to walk onto the dance floor and perform without being judged by others. To be able to dance freely, to express and be myself,” Pfotenhauer said.

Talent Africa is a platform for aspiring dancers, models, singers, actors and musical talent to perform first at regional level, and then at national level in South Africa. Once they qualify at both these rounds, they are selected to represent South Africa at both Talent America and Talent Europe.

Due to the challenges as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the national round for Talent Africa was conducted via online submission of videos.

Pfotenhauer took part and participated in her areas of passion, dance and modelling. Based on her excellent performance during the nationals, she was selected to represent South Africa in America and Spain next year.

Immediately after being awarded the title, Pfotenhauer made contact with local communities and performers and organised a soup kitchen.

“In 2018 I did a photo shoot with Table View Angels which is an organisation created to help people who have lost their job get back up on their feet again. In 2019 I did a workshop with a group of other dancers and children from the Home of Hope. This year, I did a soup kitchen along with Alfonso Freemantle and a group of beautiful young ladies for the community of Croydon,” the talented dancer said.

Pfotenhauer is planning to go to less fortunate homes to help one child realise their dream.

“We will pay for them to participate in Talent Africa 2021 and I will train the dancer,” she said.
