Local retailer Food Lover’s Market (FLM), in partnership with Tru-Cape, Rugani and Simpl. Juices, announced last week that they are joining hands with FFSA for the month of May, culminating in World Hunger Day on Wednesday 28 May.

For every 1.5kg bag of Tru-Cape apples or pears, any 1.5l Simpl. Juice, 3kg bag of Rugani carrots or 750ml Rugani vegetable juice bought at FLM between 1 May and 28 May, 79c will be contributed to FFSA, which will provide one vulnerable person with a meal.

Andrew Millson, head of sustainability at FLM, spoke about the initiative, which aims to raise enough money to provide one million meals to vulnerable people, at FFSA’s warehouse in Epping last week.

FLM is celebrating its 25th birthday this year and has grown from one Fruit & Veg store started by Brian and Mike Coppin to now having more than 16 000 employees, 128 stores in 11 countries and serving close to three million customers daily, said Millson.

Last year was the first year FLM joined hands with FFSA, and with Tru-Cape as the first partner on board almost 300 000 meals were provided.

Millson said that in addition, Brian Coppin has agreed to donate 1% of FLM’s profit on 28 May towards the campaign.
