Hard work pays off

Cheyenne Kruger (16) from Blouberg is proud of her achievements at a recent sporting competition in Sasolburg.

She competed in the Southern African Christian School’s Sports Association (Sacssa) invitational track and field championships and the Sacssa national track and field championships that took place in September.

She bagged gold for javelin, bronze for shot put and she came fourth in discus.

The competition was attended by athletes from Namibia, Zimbabwe and Lesotho among many other countries.

Talking about her achievements in an interview with TygerBurger she said she was pretty happy with the results.

“I’m happy that I worked hard, and I achieved these results. The competition was a little difficult, however I was determined. I put in all my efforts,” she says.

Building up to the championships, Kruger says she had to work a little harder.

“I had to go to the gym and work even harder so that I’m ready. I had to really work on my throws and I’m glad I got gold,” she says.

With this competition behind her, she is already preparing for next year. “I want to improve on these results. However, the big aim is to take part in the Olympics.

“I have to prepare for that as well,” she says adding that being home-schooled allows her to manage her time wisely and be able to participate in all three the sports that she really loves.

A close family friend Daphne Sargent says they are really proud of her achievement.

“Her family is very supportive and we are all overwhelmed that she took back gold. She did so well,” she says.
