Bishop Lavis police have confirmed to TygerBurger that a 24-year-old man has been taken in for questioning today (Thursday 14 January) following the alleged sexual assault of a five-year-old Bonteheuwel girl.
Police spokesperson WO Joseph Swartbooi of the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) unit is probing the incident.
“It is alleged that a five-year-old girl was inappropriately touched by a 24-year-old man who is known in the area. This man was brought in for questioning while the victim is currently being examined at a medical facility. It is too soon to speculate about the merits of the matter at this stage, as the outcome of our initial investigation will determine what further steps will be taken,” said Swartbooi.
According to ward councillor Angus McKenzie, a second child (4) was also involved, but police couldn’t confirm this yet.
