Waterfront Bridge now open

Tyger Waterfront visitors can finally walk all around the edge of the water unhindered after the new Waterfront Bridge was opened recently.

The bridge was celebrated at a function held last Friday where stakeholders ceremoniously smashed a bottle of champagne beneath the platform, thereby declaring it officially open.

The Tyger Waterfront was started 15 years ago, explains Johan Loubser, director principal of De Tijger Sectional Title (DTST).

It consists of two parts which are managed by the Tygerfalls Property Owners’ Association and Tyger Waterfront Property Association.

Regulations that were initiated at the start of construction in the area required water-facing businesses to develop the boardwalk in front of them, slowly creating a link between all the businesses, instead of building all the way around at once.

This has meant there has always been two parts of the Waterfront and moving from one to the other was only possible via vehicle.

When the Waterfront’s newest building, The Edge was opened, it became the last edition in this chain and its developers were also responsible for the bridge’s construction.

The bridge was developed by engineers AECOM and the bulk of its construction was done off-site. Once the different pieces were constructed they were brought to the Waterfront where they were assembled.
